Ghana Highway Authority (GHA)


The Ghana Highway Authority during the year 2010 carried out routine and periodic road maintenance works across the Region.

This covered grass cutting, Ditch and Culvert cleaning, Tree/Bamboo cutting by Single Man Contractors (SMCs); Grading works on Gravel Roads and Pothole Patching on paved Roads both by Local Private Contractors (LPCs) and Direct Labour (D/L) as well as Administrative Cost for supervision.

Periodic Maintenance

Government of Ghana (GOG PROJECTS)

In the 2010 programme year, 27 No. GOG funded roads were maintained and are at various stages of completion with seven (7) No. roads substantially completed.

Donor Assisted Projects

The resealing of the Mankessim – Ajumako road (km10-22) which commenced in 2008 under IDA funding but was transferred to GOG due to funding constraints has now been completed.

These projects commenced in November, 2010 and are expected to be completed on time.

Department of Feeder Roads

The total length of identifiable feeder roads network in the Central Region is 3148.73km. This comprises of engineered network of 2,286.28km, partially engineered of 386.32km and un-engineered network of 476.13km. The achievements made under various funding sources as at 31st December, 2010 are as follows:

Government of Ghana (GOG)

Routine/Recurrent Maintenance

Out of a planned total of 1,505.65km a total of 689.3km was achieved. This included grass cutting and reshaping activities.

A total of 27.37km was planned for execution. However 3.97km was completed in the year 2010. These projects are at various stages of completion.

Surfacing

A total of 46.09km were planned. 27. 5.0km was completed.. These are at various stages of completion.

Town Roads

A total of 10.85km of roads planned had 2.8km completed. These are at various stages of completion.

Second Cycle Institution

Out of a planned total of 1.42km, the 1.42km was completed.


HIPC

Out of a total of 16.5km planned. These projects are at various stage of completion.


Cocoa Fund

Out of a total of 79.40km only 5.8km was completed during 2010. These road projects are at various stages of completion.


District Capital Road Improvement Programme (DCRIP)

A total of 18.0km of roads were planned. During the year under review 6.0km was completed. These are at various stages of completion.

DANIDA (LSDGP)

A total of 145.68km of roads were planned. However, 107.37km was completed.

DUTCH/UK

Nine (9) bridges were planned during the year. However, two (2) were completed.

ACROW Corporation of America

Four (4) bridges were planned and executed.

SPAINISH

Three (3) bridges were planned and executed.
